kicking the kids out of the nest!

Our two oldest moved out last week.

I admit, I cried. They tossed everything( well, almost everything. I keep finding more of their stuff around the house), into their van, posed for a picture grinning ear to ear and left.

That was it. The house was quiet. Chris was at work, the other kids at school and I was by myself with a pile of packages to mail off.

I cried. Bawled. For about 20 minutes, I let myself be fully sad that Thomas and Taylor were no longer little babies for me to snuggle. Every day that seemed so long when they were little and a scrapped knee was a big deal. Tough times when homework was hard and we had to fight to get chores done.

Each precious memory of hugs and kisses. Hiking, going on nature walks, playing games and just hanging out.

But we have so many more memories to make together! This is an exciting time for them and for us. They get to prove how capable they are of being in charge of their future. We get to stand aside, with our hands ready to catch, as we watch them venture out into who they are meant to be. It’s exciting! It’s scary! I’m so proud! and nervous and a jumble of emotions.

After my cry session, I wiped my tears, blew my nose and got back to business. There were orders to pack, boards to make and laundry to do. Enough to keep me busy for a while.

A few hours later, the front door opens and I hear my kiddos, “mom! We’re back! We unpacked all our stuff and no we are bored, so we decided to visit!”

Have a great day!
